Thought you might ask that :) I have been a home automation tinkerer for 15 years. When I built my current home, I determined that I wanted to monitor about 120 points throughout my home. I started looking for DIO boards capable of handling this level of detail. Sadly most options were both limited (not able to get neat 120+ monitoring points) and expensive (Prices in the $50 to $200/per chanel) made much of my plans ed in the wiring closet. I found the LabJack, and it had everything I was looking for, as well as a lot of functions I will never need. The cost was reasonable (~$125 per 20 port unit) at well under $10/port. They had a lot of drivers to use the device, but nothing to directly interface it with any of the off the shelf home automation packages available out there. This became the reason for this project. I have interfaced and programmed these devices, and not I am implimenting v1.0 of what I hopee will be a stable enough package to leave with the new owners when I sell this beast :)

The Tech Specs on the U3 are at http://www.labjack.com/labjack_u3.php?prodId=53 if you want the most flexable package, then add this to the device http://www.labjack.com/details.php?prodId=28&category=4  to give you all the connection points (You can build your own if you are a real die hard builder, specs on the site
